Dambatenne Tea Factory in Sri Lanka

April 9, 2018 | Posted in Travel

In Sri Lanka, tea is the national drink. Well it has to be! Every day almost every nationality in the world will sip a liquid that was made from leaves grown here in the mysterious hills of Sri Lanka. I made the trip to the valleys and hills at Haputale in Sri Lanka to the impressive Dambatenne Tea Factory, opened by Thomas Lipton over 100 years ago. It is currently a source of tea for Scottish based company Lipton Tea amongst other worldwide tea companies and distributors. All the tea is grown locally here in the gorgeous mountains and valleys of Sri Lanka’s inland region.[]

Travel Essentials – Yellow Fever Certificate

February 11, 2018 | Posted in HEALTH

A Yellow Fever Certificate is not just essential, but compulsory in some countries. You need to get one before heading off on any kind of adventurous travel. You’ll be asked for your Yellow Fever Certificate at some airports and a few land border crossings. Don’t take any risks. Get your Yellow Fever Injection before you head off round the world. I’m saying this because it’s better to have it in advance than suddenly decide you want to fly to Namibia in two weeks and you won’t have time to get a quick one. Of course if you’re not a nomad or a spontaneous traveller then you may not need one if you already know the countries you are going to and whether they are at risk or not.

Deception Island Entrance in Antarctica

Deception Island is a totally magnificent place and this was another amazing journey on planet earth, almost James Bond style as we waited on deck. What lay ahead was the boat having to squeeze its way through a narrow passage called Neptune’s Bellows so that we could get inside Deception Island. There was a sense of wonder all around.

Up Close to Cape Horn

July 29, 2017 | Posted in Cruises

A Michael Palin documentary a few years back saw him actually land and set foot on Cape Horn. For those who don’t actually know, Cape Horn is, realistically the last point of “liveable” land on planet earth. Conditions further south are generally too cold, and this particular island is the southern most tip of South America.[]

The best way to visit China – Avoid Shanghai and Beijing

October 10, 2016 | Posted in Travel

So you want to see the real China then? Well read on for a bit of decent advice into how to properly dip your toes into the world’s largest country by population. One thing you need to know first is that visiting Shanghai and Beijing are not really visiting China. The reason is these places now have street signs in English, an influx of foreign workers and they are well connected with internet, telephone and all modern communications. To see the real China you need to avoid those two big cities and get out into the obscure countryside where China breathes the way it really lives.

How to get a cheap trip to Antarctica

May 6, 2013 | Posted in Travel

This post has been a while in coming believe me and I’m about to reveal the cheapest way for a traveller or a backpacker to get to Antarctica without working on a ship or working in Antarctica. This is how to book a cheap trip to Antarctica as a traveller and backpacker. You can do it, and you SHOULD do it. Antarctica is the best place I have been so far. []
